The Sharks sit comfortably inside the top eight after knocking off old foes Melbourne and will be looking to shore up their position this week against a Roosters outfit missing five Origin stars.

The absence of Maroons duo Lindsay Collins and Robert Toia and Blues stars Angus Crichton, Spencer Leniu and Connor Watson means the Roosters' depth will be fully tested as they attempt to rebound from a narrow loss to the Bulldogs.

Having already blooded four debutants in 2025, including Toia in Round 1, Roosters coach Trent Robinson has handed Benaiah Ioelu his first NRL cap this week and Taylor Losalu plays just his fourth game.

The last time the two sides met it was the Sharks getting home 38-30 at Magic Round 2024 when Nicho Hynes produced a masterclass to ensure he'd be the Blues halfback for Game One of the Origin series.

Team News

Roosters: With five players on Origin duty the Roosters bring Dom Young, Makahesi Makatoa, Salesi Foketi, Benaiah Ioelu and Taylor Losalu into the 17. Young will play his first game since Round 7 on the wing and Mark Nawaqaniqawase moves into the centres to replace Maroons debutant Robert Toia. Back-rower Nat Butcher was named on Tuesday to return from a knee injury but dropped out on Friday, replaced on the bench by Xavier Vaa. Also on the bench is Benaiah Ioelu on NRL debut.

Sharks: Jesse Ramien has been named despite sustaining an eye injury against the Storm but winger Sam Stonestreet is facing 6-8 weeks out with a high-grade syndesmosis injury. Mawene Hiroti comes back into the side for his first game since Round 8 having recovered from a knee injury. Back-rower Teig Wilton is pushing for a return from a shoulder injury and is part of the extended squad but Tom Hazelton remains sidelined with a sternum problem. No changes in Friday's 24-hour update with Tuku Hau Tapuha the 18th man.
