
After captaining the Harold Matthews Cup team to the brink of the grand final, lock Tom Dellow was crowned the Sharks' Junior Representative Player of the Year at Tuesday's presentation night.
Dellow swept the under-17 categories, collecting the Players' Player, Player of the Year and Coaches Awards in recognition of his outstanding season.
For the under-19 SG Ball team, who fell just short of the finals, prop Jai Davies was named Player of the Year, winger Pharrell Gray received the Coaches Award and second-rower Max McCarthy earned the Players' Player gong.
The dinner at Sharks at Kareela acknowledged the efforts of the junior boys squads and staff, with a separate presentation for the girls on Wednesday evening.
From the Como-Jannali Crocodiles club, Dellow also played in the Matthews Cup last year, won the Coaches Award and earned selection in the City under-16 side.
The tough and skilful forward joins NRL squad members Blayke Brailey and Sam Stonestreet – both of whom attended the presentation night – and Teig Wilton in being named the Junior Representative Player of the Year.
Along with the players, attendees included NRL head coach Craig Fitzgibbon and his staff, club CEO Dino Mezzatesta, General Manager Football Darren Mooney, Development and Pathways Manager Glenn Brailey and representatives from Sharks Academy major partner John Ryan Freight Management.
Fellow junior rep sponsors Minespec Parts, SBA Earthmoving and Attachments, Shore Hire and Cronulla Carpets were also thanked for their support.
The Harold Matthews side, coached by Brad Kelly, were defeated 8-6 by Western Suburbs in the grand final qualifier in April. The Dave Howlett-coached SG Ball outfit showed promise with four wins and a draw in finishing a respectable ninth.
