Junior Sharks go three for three at Penrith

It was a fruitful trek to the foot of the mountains for the junior Sharks on Saturday with three wins from as many games against Penrith.

The Lisa Fiaola girls started the Round 7 party with a 30-14 victory - their second on the trot and of the season - before the Tarsha Gale team careered away with a 48-4 win.

Capping off a memorable day at St Marys Leagues Stadium, the SG Ball boys completed a come-from-behind 28-22 triumph to remain in the hunt for the finals.

Cronulla's Harold Matthews squad had the bye.

Lisa Fiaola coach Robbie Taylor was delighted with his under-17 team's performance, noting they are continuing to develop with game experience.

"Things just worked, they just stuck. Ball control was good, our possession was good. We completed 80+ percent of sets, so that was really good," Taylor said.

"And that's all you can ask for from these girls; they're still learning. To come out and play like that, off the back of a win against Souths two weeks ago, it's been really good. Happy for the girls."

After putting away the Panthers in ruthless fashion, the under-19 Tarsha Gale Sharks are positioned comfortably in fifth place with two rounds remaining.

"We started well, set the tone early with our defence and really dominated field position early which is always handy," coach Isaac Michael said on Saturday.

"A really dominant first half. Again, we just missed the jump at the start of the second half. It's a bit of a pattern for us, something we probably need to address.

"But we found our rhythm eventually again and once we did we played pretty good footy … When we play our footy, we're confident we can take it to teams."

While the under-19 SG Ball side trailed by 16 at halftime, coach Dave Howlett was pleased to see they didn't panic and were able to power home over the top.

Howlett's troops are in eighth position, one point outside the top six.

"I thought the boys worked really hard for each other in defence. It was a little bit of a theme for the week because we let ourselves down last week (against the Bulldogs)," Howlett said.

"Obviously, I would have preferred us to not do so much tackling – we weren't very tidy with the ball. It's sort of weird to be happy with a 16-0 scoreline at halftime.

"But really, with the amount of ball and the field position they had, we did well to keep it to 16, which gave us the opportunity to win the game in the second half.

"The second half the boys were a little bit better connected in attack. We earnt some time with the footy and the boys were good enough. We made a point of not chasing the points; the boys were really good at just sticking to the way we play our footy and the points came on the back of that."
