Junior reps preview | Round 7

It's crunch time for the SG Ball Sharks on Saturday as they head to Penrith with their junior representative finals hopes in the balance.

With three games remaining in the season, the under-19 men's Sharks are in ninth place and may need go undefeated from this point to clinch a spot in the top six.

While the Matthews Cup side has a bye, Cronulla's Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale women will also travel to the foot of the mountains refreshed after a week off.

SG Ball Cup

After winning two matches on the bounce, the talented SG Ball boys suffered a 50-18 defeat to the Bulldogs in Round 6 after going into halftime at 14-all.

The result leaves them with a tough task to qualify for the playoffs, with a cluster of teams in a similar position, but there is certainly still life in their campaign.

The Panthers (12th) are one competition point behind the Sharks following a 44-4 defeat to the Raiders last weekend. They've shown an ability to match it with the top teams, having tested the undefeated Roosters in a 22-16 loss in Round 4.

"Onwards and upwards," Sharks coach Dave Howlett said after the defeat to Canterbury.

Lisa Fiaola Cup

Having scored their long-awaited first win against the Rabbitohs in Round 5, the under-17 Lisa Fiaola Sharks will aim to keep their newfound momentum going.

A bye last weekend gave the team a chance to regroup and set themselves for a huge burst to finish a season that has already resulted in terrific development.

Penrith, sitting two spots above Cronulla in 10th, began their season with back-to-back victories but haven't won since Round 2. However, with a home-ground advantage, they won't be easy-beats.

Tarsha Gale Cup

Sitting in sixth spot with a three-point gap to seventh, the under-19 Sharks women will go a long way to securing a finals berth with victory against the Panthers.

Penrith are in ninth place and, like their Lisa Fiaola counterparts, are searching for their first win since Round 2.

Cronulla made a statement with a dominant win over the Rabbitohs in their most recent performance and will want to build steam as they plot a playoffs assault.
