Junior reps preview | Round 6

Approaching the business end of the season, the junior Sharks must continue on their winning ways to book a spot in the finals.

While the Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale Cup teams enjoy a bye, the Harold Matthews and SG Ball boys head to Terry Lamb Complex on Saturday to meet the Bulldogs.

Read on for a rundown of each match.

Harold Matthews Cup

They've won three straight games and only been beaten once all season, but the under-17 Sharks will face one of their biggest tests in an undefeated Canterbury.

The second-placed Bulldogs are coming off a 20-all draw with the unbeaten Eels - the only side to topple Cronulla - while the Sharks outclassed Souths 28-14 in Round 5.

Cronulla fullback Oliver Lester could be the game-breaker, aiming to score for a sixth consecutive game after bagging the opening try against the Rabbitohs.

Centre Elijah Cooper is another weapon, having touched down three times in five starts, and halves Callum Grantham and Johnathan Mansour have combined well.

Sharks coach Brad Kelly noted his team weren't quite at their peak last outing, with errors and penalties pushing them on the back foot at times, but was encouraged by the way they responded after being challenged at halftime.

"We've put ourselves in a good position for the back end of the year," he said.

Sitting in fourth place with a bye up their sleeve, a victory for the Sharks would put them above Canterbury and go a long way to securing a top-six berth.

SG Ball Cup

After mixing their form early, the under-19 Sharks are firmly back on course having secured back-to-back wins, the latest being a 52-14 thumping of the Rabbitohs.

Dave Howlett's seventh-placed troops have a terrific chance to make it three on the trot as they tackle a Bulldogs outfit one competition point behind them.

But they'll have to get the job done without NRL squad member Michael Gabrael, who bagged a hat-trick in Round 5, with the lightning-fast centre selected to play for the under-21 Jersey Flegg team in New Zealand on Sunday.

Halfback Riley Pollard made a successful return from a head knock last week and has been named in the No.7 jersey. He is set to go head-to-head with Canterbury captain Mitchell Woods, earmarked as a future NRL playmaker.

Coach Howlett saw merit in Cronulla's last-start performance, saying there were "signs we are getting better" as they prepare to launch into the top six.

The Bulldogs convincingly beat Parramatta 32-16 last week and will be determined to continue their momentum in a bid to leapfrog a cluster of teams in finals contention, with just three points separating fifth and 12th place.
