Flegg Sharks build on sizzling start to beat the Raiders

Three tries in the opening period of the contest and the final three tries scored by winger Kristian Dixon has propelled the Jersey Flegg Sharks to a convincing 34-16 win over the Canberra Raiders in their round 24 clash played at PointsBet Stadium

In a fast start, 18 points in the first 15 minutes established a commanding Sharks lead and Dixon finished it off, and while the Raiders had their moments in attempting to work their way back into the contest, the home team would prove too good in confirming their place inside the top four on the under-21’s ladder.

The first try came off a line break from Toby Boothroyd, the back rower finding Tully Wilton in support with an inside pass, the second saw centre Ben Lavender slide over in the north-western corner of PointsBet Stadium following a clever passing exchange, then a long run down the western touchline by Siteni Taukomo resulted in a Manaia Waitere touchdown adjacent to the posts.

Three successful Dixon conversions and it was 18-0 to the home side.

The Raiders managed to bridge the gap with a 22nd minute try of their own, before Taukamo would cross before the break to send the teams to half time with the Sharks ahead 22-6.

The Raiders again edged their way back into the contest with a try in the first five minutes of the second period, but with Dixon crossing for the final three Sharks tries, in the 45th, 58th and 68th minutes, the Sharks would confirm a crucial win with only two games left in the regular season.

The Sharks now have 12 wins on the season and sit on 32 competition points, with games to be played against the Wests Tigers and Knights to complete their season.
