Panthers run down Flegg Sharks to score last gasp win

A Penrith try with less than three minutes of the match remaining has seen them score a narrow 22-20 win over the Sharks in their round 22 match.

The Sharks had led throughout, with the Panthers try adjacent to the posts and the subsequent conversion their first lead of the afternoon in what was a heartbreaking finish for a Cronulla team pushing for a Finals berth.

Beginning the match with plenty of energy, the Sharks had scored twice in the opening 15 minutes for the match, winger Kristian Dixon, then backrower Henry O'Kane crossing and at 10-0 in front the Sharks were full of running.

Hard working middle forward Lachlan Crouch would crash over from close range soon after and it was all the Sharks at 16-0.

A Panthers try to fullback Liam Ison, the first of two he would score on the night narrowed the margin at the break with the visiting Cronulla side ahead 16-6.

Ison's second early in the second period made it 16-10, before a 43rd minute touchdown and the conversion from near to the posts saw the scores locked up at 16-all.

Sharks halfback Noah Lester sliced through to put his side ahead once again and just when it appeared the Cronulla team would hold on for the win, the 67th minute Penrith try would seal the result in their favour.

Despite the loss the Sharks will remain in fourth position on the Flegg ladder ahead of bye next weekend.
