Flegg Sharks in great escape

A late try by hooker Kobie Wilson has seen the Jersey Flegg Sharks escape with a 12-8 victory over the Wests Tigers in their round 14 match at PointsBet Stadium.

The Sharks trailed for the entire contest until the 68th minute try tipped the result in their favour, the win keeping the young Cronulla team in touch with the competition front runners.

However while the Sharks will be relieved to have claimed the all important two competition points, coach Andrew Dallana would have been disappointed with aspects of his teams performance, with a number of handling errors and missed scoring opportunities allowing their opponents to cling to a lead for the majority of the contest.

It was a lone Tigers try in just the fourth minute of the first half sent the teams to the break with the visitors up 4-0, the Sharks being denied on a number of occasions by poor finishing and desperate Wests Tigers defense.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, a Tigers try 10 minutes after half time seeing them jump out to an 8-0 advantage and the Sharks had it all to do.

The passes would finally stick and the Tigers eventually crack just 10 minutes from full time, a Josh Finau line break leading to a Tully Wilson try and the Niwhai Puru conversion to make it 8-6 in setting up a grandstand finish.

After a penalty gifted the Sharks field position in the final minutes, it would be the Wilson try to decide the result, the hooker sensing an opportunity and burrowing over from dummy half.

With the win the Flegg Sharks maintained their spot inside the top three on the ladder, with a game next weekend against the Storm in Melbourne.
