Ikuvalu granted immediate release

Outside back Matt Ikuvalu requested and has been granted a release from his current Sharks NRL contract, effective immediately, to take up an opportunity in the English Super League.

Ikuvalu, who suffered a serious knee injury in a NSW CUP Finals match playing for the Newtown Jets late last season, played five NRL games for the Cronulla Club during 2022 after arriving from the Roosters at the start of the season.

In all he has played 43 NRL games, scoring 29 tries.

Ikuvalu made a successful return from injury last weekend, playing for the Jets against the Sydney Roosters in a round seven match in the KOE NSW Cup.

“This is a great opportunity for Matt and we wish him well. He has had injury issues since joining the Sharks however has always been a positive influence around the players and the club and we thank him for his contribution both on and off the field,” Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon said.

Ikuvalu will depart for the UK in the coming days to join his Super League Club.
