Strong second half propels Jets to win over the Dogs

A pair of Connor Tracey tries either side of half time and a dominant second half performance has propelled the Newtown Jets to a 28-10 win over the Bulldogs in their round eight clash at Accor Stadium.

The Jets started slowly, with possession and the bounce of the ball going the way of their opponents, fell behind 10-0, before the first of Tracey's tries came four minutes before the break, the fullback beating a number of would-be tacklers in a determined run to the line.

With the successful conversion from Mawene Hiroti the teams went to the break with the Bulldogs ahead 10-6, however it wouldn't be long before the Jets would take their first lead of the afternoon, the second Travey try the result of a well-timed inside pass.

Kayal Iro would score shortly after, the Hiroti conversions pushing the lead out to 8-points at 18-10 Jets, with neither team able to add to their score in the next 20-odd minutes.

After weathering whatever the Bulldogs were able to throw at them the Jets crossed for two more tries in the final seven minutes of the match, the first to Daniel Atkinson after he picked up a loose ball from a Newtown grubber kick, the second to winger Josh Mansour who scored as the fulltime siren was sounding.

The Jets win was revenge of sorts for a defeat suffered at the hands of the competition leading Bulldogs just three weeks ago.

With the win the Newtown side moved into second position on the KOE NSW Cup ladder, level on 12 points with the Bulldogs but trailing on for and against.
