Tarsha Sharks share the points

Following a round one bye, the Tarsha Gale Sharks have shared the competition points in their first official hit out of the 2023 season, playing out a 10-all draw with the North Sydney Bears.

A match played in oppressive heat, the young Sharks battled hard to lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the match, only for a Bears try to level the scores in setting up a tense final six or seven minutes.

Showing good resilience in the hot and steamy conditions, the Sharks held out their opponents in the closing exchanges with coach Neil Stanley extremely pleased with the commitment of his team.

“A nail-biter towards the end, but the girls stuck strong in the conditions. I’m really proud of them being our first game after a round one bye,” Stanley said

“We had a focus on what we wanted to do, which was about making sure we were consistent with our effort.”

It was the Bears who opened the scoring, a converted try 14 minutes into the contest putting them ahead by 6-0, a lead they would take to the half time break.

The Sharks would respond early in the second period, Mercydes Metcalf touching down, with Angie Tucker converting and the scores were level with everything to play for in the last 20 minutes of the match.

A nice team try, finished off by Sage Gray gave the Cronulla team the lead at 10-6 heading into the final 10 minutes, before the Bears levelled in setting up the exciting finish.

Next up for the Tarsha Sharks is a tough assignment against a Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team who have begun their season with two consecutive wins.
