Trial Preview v Knights

The Sharks will field an experienced forward pack and a backline featuring new faces and a handful of up-and-coming stars for their trial match against the Knights on the Central Coast this evening.

The likes of Toby Rudolf, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Cam McInnes, Jack Williams and new recruit Oregon Kaufusi will clash with a Newcastle pack which includes the Saifiti brothers Daniel and Jacob, as well as former Shark Jayden Brailey, for a game scheduled to get underway at 5.55pm at the Industree Group Stadium.

Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon has given newcomers Niwhai Puru, Daniel Atkinson, and former Knight Max Bradbury an opportunity to impress, with Atkinson and Bradbury having spent just a little over a week training with the Cronulla side.

Hoping to show the benefits of a full off-season with the NRL squad will be a number of local youngsters now making their way through to the senior ranks, with De La Salle Caringbah outside back Sam Stonestreet selected on one wing and Engadine Dragons juniors Josh Finau (middle forward), Blake Hosking (lock) and Sam Healey (hooker) named on the interchange bench.

Healey is the son of former Sharks star Mitch who played more than 220 top grade games over 12 seasons for the Cronulla club.

Wade Graham, playing in the slightly unfamiliar position of five eighth, will captain the Sharks.

The trial is the first match of a double header, with a match between Manly and Souths to follow at 8pm.

The Sharks have named 25 players for the game, which will be played in four quarters with unlimited interchange.

For those Sharks members and fans unable to make the trip to the Central Coast, the match will be televised on Fox Sports and Kayo.
