Quality coaching, skill development, at the Ungah Academy

Ungah is a Dharawal word for Shark, while the junior academy bearing its name is a Sharks program not to be missed by aspiring youngsters looking for high quality rugby league coaching and skill development.

A five-week program taking place on Monday evenings beginning on February 27th, the Ungah Academy provides the perfect lead-in to the upcoming junior league season.

Open to registered JRL players as well as those looking to try the game of rugby league for the first time, the Ungah Academy clinics are for boys and girls, conducted in two time slots, with the four- to nine-year-old’s from 4pm-6pm and the 10-13’s age group at 5pm to 7pm.

And while knowledgeable, accredited coaches will run the groups through the skills and drills, as an added bonus to participants, Sharks NRL star Matt Moylan will attend and assist at all Ungah Academy sessions.

A former NSW and Australian representative as well as a veteran of 169 NRL games, 80 of those at the Sharks, while hard at work himself in preparation for the upcoming 2023 season, Moylan didn’t hesitate when asked to become involved and pass on some of the lessons learnt over his many years of playing rugby league.

“I’m looking forward to getting to the Ungah Academy sessions and while obviously we want to make it a lot of fun, it’s also important the kids get good coaching from a young age and I’m hoping I’ll be able to help with that,” Moylan said.

“After starting at a similar age to these kids, then through a long NRL career, I’ve learnt a lot and developed an interest in coaching along the way, and now I’m completing my NRL Level 2 coaching course.

“So what better way to continue my coaching progression than with the Ungah Academy sessions,” Moylan added.

In addition to the qualified coaches, Moylan will be supported at each Ungah Academy session by Sharks NRL and Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership players.

Each Ungah Academy session will also have an important education component with wellbeing areas including hydration, sleep and mindfulness amongst the topics to be covered.

Participants will also get an exclusive Ungah Academy training singlet.

The price of the five-week Ungah Academy program is $225 per participant,
