In the spirit of Christmas, Sharks Ladies Golf and Sharks Have Heart came together to deliver presents to the children in the Skillz4me program.
A Shire Christmas tradition which has developed in recent years is the Sharks Ladies Golf Toy Drive, where the ladies generously gather carloads of gifts including lego, arts and crafts, sports equipment and dolls and then donate them to Sharks Have Heart who are tasked with choosing a deserving community group to distribute the presents to.
This year it was decided that the children and siblings of participants in the Skillz4me program would be the worthy recipients of the gifts.
A community organisation that delivers free after school programs for children with disabilities, Skillz4me aims to build confidence, reduce social isolation and create opportunities for kids to participate in activities they love.
Sharks NRL squad members Toby Rudolf and Kade Dykes had the honour this year of collecting the toys from the Sharks Ladies Golf Christmas lunch, while Cameron McInnes and Tom Hazelton attended the Skillz4me Christmas Party at Inflatable World in Miranda to distribute the donated gifts, with the reaction from the children priceless.
The need for a program such as Skillz4me is something close to Cameron’s heart, with his son, like many of those involved in Skillz4me, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), making the opportunity for him to give back extra special.
“The support I hear the families get, the community spirit, is something that we could really use with Noa on his journey with ASD. Having programs like that available is really great,” McInnes said.
On behalf of everyone at the Cronulla Sharks, we offer our sincere thanks to all members of Sharks Ladies Golf for their on-going support and generosity.
Skillz4me are also the expert delivery partner of the Sharks Have Heart Mega Jaws program.
