The Sharks mourn the passing of life member Reg Purcell, a long-time club volunteer and much-loved character at the Sharks.

Born in 1933, Purcell passed away on the Central Coast late last week after a short illness, aged 88.

The brother of the late Sharks director and club administrator Bill Purcell and uncle to Shark #103 John Purcell, Reg was a familiar face around the team during the period when Jack Stewart was President of the club in the 1970’s, with his involvement continuing more than 30-years later.

A dedicated helper and jack of all trades around the team and dressing room on a game day, Purcell would also lead the victory song after a Sharks win, with his lifelong commitment to the Sharks rewarded with life membership of the Cronulla-Sutherland Football Club.

Reggie as he was affectionately known, was fondly remembered by the many past players and officials at the Sharks whom he encountered over many years.

A funeral for Reg will be held on the Central Coast at Greenway Chapel, 460 Avoca Drive, Green Point, starting at 2.00pm, with family and friends invited to attend.

The service will also be livestreamed from 1.55pm via www.creightonfuneralservice.com.au
