On the back of an outstanding 2022 season to date, Sharks five eighth Matt Moylan has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension.

The announcement follows another stand out performance, with Moylan one of the Sharks best in a 28-6 thumping of the Melbourne Storm last night, with the new deal to see the 31-year-old remain at the Cronulla club until at least the end of the 2024 season.

“It’s exciting times moving forward and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity,” Moylan said. “I’m really excited about playing some good footy leading into the back end of the year and I’m looking forward to contribute over the next couple of years, to keep improving and doing my job for the team.”

After joining the Sharks in 2018, a year in which Moylan played 24 games during that first season in helping guide the Cronulla team into the Finals, he then battled a series of injuries, affecting his ability to consistently perform at the level he was accustomed to.

However, the 2022 season has seen a turnaround in fortunes for the former NSW and Australian representative, with Moylan building up an impressive combination with Nicho Hynes, as well as with youngster Braydon Trindall, his halves partner in the victory over the Storm.

“I’ve been able to play every game this year which is something I haven’t been able to do the last couple of years and I’m also enjoying the training side of things and being on the paddock to build some combinations with the playing group,” Moylan added.

A St Pats Blacktown Junior, Moylan played five seasons and 89 games at the Panthers, before joining the Sharks in 2018. He has since played 74 NRL games for the Sharks, while representing Australia on one occasion and NSW in three State of Origin matches.

Moylan has scored 76 tries in his 163 NRL matches.
