With a team somewhat depleted by injury, the Jersey Flegg Sharks hung on to notch a vital 22-20 victory over the Victorian Thunderbolts in their round 11 clash last weekend.
The Sharks had looked to have done enough when Jordan Samrani scored with under seven minutes of the match remaining, however a late Thunderbolts try led to a few anxious moments, before the final siren ended their challenge and sent the Cronulla side home from what is a difficult road trip with the valuable two competition points.
The young Sharks side had built up a handy 18-6 lead at half time, before going in front 22-14, then holding on for their fifth victory, to go with one draw and four losses from five matches this season.
They sit in fifth place, with this week’s opponents the Wests Tigers sixth, one competition point behind.
The two teams have already met once this year, the Sharks running out convincing 38-4 winners in the round five match, however the Tigers have improved considerably in the weeks to follow, setting up a challenging assignment for the Sharks on Sunday.
The Sharks v Tigers Flegg match will be played at Lidcombe Oval, kicking off at 11am. A Knock-On Effect NSW Cup match between the Jets and Western Suburbs Magpies follow the Flegg at Lidcombe Oval on Sunday, getting underway at 1pm.
