While the Matthews Cup Sharks have stalled somewhat with two consecutive losses, their SG Ball counterparts have moved into Finals contention with back to back victories, making for two crucial matches when the young Cronulla teams take on the Balmain Tigers on Saturday.

The Matthews Cup Sharks squandered a 10-0 half time lead in going down by 18-10 to the Raiders, in the process dropping to fourth on the competition table and into a logjam of teams fighting for a place in the top six.

Their opponents this weekend in the Tigers are ninth, but just two points outside the six, with a condensed table featuring 11 teams still in with a chance of qualifying for the Finals with two matches remaining.

As for the SG Ball Sharks, they have bounced back into the Finals picture after two impressive wins in their most recent outings, the first over a highly rated Manly side, before a 40-6 demolition of the Raiders last Saturday.

The Ball Sharks are seventh on the ladder, one spot ahead, but level on competition points, with the Tigers.

The two Sharks junior rep matches are scheduled to be played at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, with a Newtown Jets v Newcastle Knights NSW Cup match to follow.
