Once the rain goes away and the puddles subside, it won’t be long before the junior league season kicks off for 2022.

With 13 participating clubs in the local area, between them registering and putting on the field in excess of 5,000 players, both boys and girls, in the Cronulla-Sutherland district competitions, it all points towards a positive year for junior rugby league.

Cronulla JRL General Manager Tyrone Collins was pleased to welcome back all players, officials, families and club volunteers for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.

“After a couple of challenging years with Covid restrictions, it’s exciting to be able to look forward to a full season of games, and with no Covid drinks breaks or the protocols which had been required over the past two years,” Collins began.

“Last year we had record registrations and we are tracking to better those numbers this season. We are waiting on final nominations but are looking at starting up some new competitions, but with boys and girls, men’s and women’s tackle and tag, women’s tag and over 35’s tag for men, we have something for everyone in the family. Rugby League is truly a game for all.

“And we couldn’t do what we do without the support of our major sponsors Aramex, Zambrero and the Sports Medicine Institute,” Collins added.

Due to get underway with round one matches on the first weekend in April, the junior league season will be previewed by two launch events the weekend prior, one for the juniors, followed by an evening affair for seniors, on March 26.

With a range of competitions to suite everyone, including contact and non-contact versions of Rugby League, rugby league in the Sutherland Shire is the “game for all” in 2022.
