Jets fly back into Finals contention

Two barnstorming tries to promising young Sharks front rower Franklin Pele, one in the first minute, the second in the fourth, has propelled the Newtown Jets to a commanding victory over the Dragons in their round 11 Knock-On Effect NSW Cup match.

The Pele four-pointers set the tone, with the Jets relinquishing that advantage somewhat, before well and truly taking control as they ran away with a 44-20 win at Henson Park.

In the end it was an eight tries to four win which has seen the Jets climb the KOE ladder after a slow start to their campaign and move into sixth place nearing the midway point of the 2021 season.

The Jets would take a 24-16 lead to half time, but they had it almost all their own way in the second period.

Bronson Garlick, one of the Jets most consistent performers so far in 2021, matched Pele's efforts with two tries of his own, while Luke Metcalf at the back kicked six goals in the Newtown win.

After not getting onto the field on Friday night in the Sharks golden point victory over the Dragons, Billy Magoulias was a late inclusion in bolstering the Jets team.

The Jets have a third bye in round 12, with their next opponent the Canberra Raiders at Henson Park in round 13.
