Tarsha Sharks win a nail-biter

The Tarsha Gale Sharks have held on in what was a tense and exciting finish in beating the Wests Tigers 18-14 in their round eight match at PointsBet Stadium.

With the scores deadlocked at 14-all and only four minutes remaining, Chloe Boston scored the match winner for the Sharks, who held out one final Tigers attacking raid in claiming their third win in six games in the 2021 season.

Up against an opponent which had only dropped on game through the opening six rounds, it appeared it might be a long day for the Sharks girls when they conceded the first points just one minute into the contest.

The Sharks managed to strike back courtesy of a Tayla Curtis four-pointer and when Sophia Griffin converted the home team was ahead 6-4 after 10 minutes, a score that would remain unchanged up until the half time break.

In a see-sawing second period the Tigers retook the lead to go in front 10-6 with an early try, before the Sharks again responded, Lily Murdoch touching down, before Curtis crossed for a second and it was 14-10 Cronulla with time ticking down.

Again the Tigers would bounce back, levelling the scores at 14-all with 10 minutes to go, until the Boston try tipped the game in the Sharks favour.

The win saw the Sharks move into the top four on the Tarsha Gale table in giving them an outstanding opportunity to qualify for the competition finals with two matches in their season remaining.
