It was a difficult night for the Sharks, who lost a couple of key players through injury in a 34-18 loss to the Roosters at the SCG on Saturday night.
The Sharks began slowly, battled back to trail 24-12 at the break and when trying to work their way into the contest early in the second period lost Shaun Johnson with a ruptured Achilles.
Later Royce Hunt would leave the field on a medicab with a serious knee injury, before Josh Dugan hobbled off late.
However, in the final analysis, the Sharks were probably their own worst enemies with poor ball control an issue in the opening half, putting their defence under too much pressure against the potent Roosters attack.
Despite the loss, the Sharks received a number of committed performances, with Connor Tracy stepping up in the absence of Johnson, Sione Katoa turning in a typically energetic effort on the right wing and forwards Siosifa Talakai and Toby Rudolf running hard all night.
Scott Sorensen also had a productive night, running for a team high 162 metres, while hooker Blayke Brailey was his typically reliable self, making 37 tackles with only one miss and providing crisp service out of dummy half.
And before his devastating injury, Johnson added to his NRL leading try assist tally in a strong performance from the Sharks stand in skipper.
