Stat Attack: Kennedy coming into his own as Sharks No.1

Sharks fullback Will Kennedy matched endurance with explosiveness to produce the most kilometres and high-speed efforts in a rare Telstra Tracker double last round.

The 23-year-old covered 9.7km and recorded 42 high-speed efforts (bursts of 20km/h or more) in Saturday's win over the Cowboys. In doing so, Kennedy became just the third player this season to sit atop two of the three weekly Telstra Tracker categories at once.

Kennedy, who has been given the chance to shine with Matt Moylan unfortunately battling injury concerns for most of the year, is mounting an impressive case to remain Cronulla's permanent No.1.

He has recorded nine try assists (equal-fifth among fullbacks) - including two against the Cowboys - in 12 games.

In the high-speed efforts department, Kennedy beat Eels captain Clint Gutherson (40), Cowboys winger Valentine Holmes (37), Storm custodian Ryan Papenhuyzen (35) and Bulldogs centre Marcelo Montoya (34).

Kennedy and Gutherson jointly hold the 2020 record for most-high speed efforts in a game with 45.

Dragons centre Zac Lomax also covered 9.7km in round 16, with he and Kennedy edging Knights captain Mitchell Pearce, Roosters half Kyle Flanagan (both 9.6km) and Cronulla pivot Connor Tracey (9.5).

Meanwhile, Storm winger Josh Addo-Carr fell just short of equalling the top speed of the season having been clocked at 36.8km/h in the victory over Manly on Sunday.

South Sydney's Alex Johnston and Brisbane's Xavier Coates own the fastest speed of 2020 - both ran at 36.9km/h in round six.

Addo-Carr is now just behind them, although the 38.5km/h he recorded in 2019 is still the top Telstra Tracker speed overall.

'The Foxx' was last week quicker than Brisbane's Kotoni Staggs (36km/h), Roosters centre Joey Manu (34.3), Dragons back Euan Aitken (34.2) and Rabbitohs fullback Latrell Mitchell (33.9).
