Daryl to sing up a ‘Storm’ at Sharks home opener

The action will be intense when the Sharks tackle Melbourne in the round two match which represents the first outing using Netstrata Jubilee Stadium as their 2020 home ground.

Cameron Smith and his Storm team, coming up against a Sharks side looking to take down a tall poppy in the early rounds of the new season, represents a mouth-watering clash just two weeks into the season.

However, while the action will be fast and furious when the 2016 Grand Finalists renew their rivalry, the Sharks are offering members and fans some added incentive to get along to support the home opener with Australian music icon Daryl Braithwaite to perform at half time.

Braithwaite, who has appeared at events such as the NRL Grand Final, the Melbourne Cup, the recent Bushfire Relief concert and in front of sold-out stadiums across the country, will rock Netstrata Stadium on March 21 with a rendition of his iconic anthem ‘Horses’ at half time of the main game.

Incoming Sharks CEO Dino Mezzatesta believes the appearance of Braithwaite could be the extra motivation Sharks fans need to embrace their temporary home for this first game of the year and is calling on all members and supporters to rally behind the team and to get their tickets and to be there for the round two match up.

“It’s so easy for fans to watch from home these days,” Mezzatesta told the Sunday Telegraph. “You’ve got to try new things and make a bigger effort and give fans more value for their money. We’re going all out with an Aussie legend.

“It’s a Saturday night, it’s Melbourne Storm and it should be a great occasion. We’ll do whatever we can to show our fans we’ve got a competitive footy team and a great atmosphere at our games,” he added.

The Sharks v Storm match is scheduled for a 7.35pm kick-off at Netstrata Jubilee on Saturday, March 21, with the Cronulla side opening their season this weekend with an away fixture against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Sharks and Souths play at ANZ Stadium, with the starting time for that match 5.30pm.
