Canterbury Cup Team List - Jets v Knights

After one of their more complete performances of the 2019 season, the Newtown Jets will look to maintain and build on their recent run of good form when they host the Newcastle Knights at Henson Park on Saturday.

The Jets scored seven tries in a 42-14 demolition of the Magpies, a win which saw them secure a finals berth, however coach Gregg Matterson is certain to be stressing the importance of going into the finals on the back of another victory this weekend.

Former Bulldog and Kiwi international Greg Eastwood showed his worth in the win over the Magpies scoring two tries, with Sharks Sione Katoa, Kyle Flanagan and Toby Rudolf, in his first game in Jets colours, also key figures in the Newtown victory.

This Saturday, the Jets will be without Katoa after he was called into the Sharks NRL side, while Matterson will be sweating on Flanagan and perhaps Billy Magoulias and Blayke Brailey being available if they aren’t required by the Sharks on Sunday.

Even with a win, the Jets are unlikely to improve their position on the ladder, however a loss, coupled with a victory by the Wentworthville Magpies who play the ladder-leading South Sydney Rabbitohs, could see them slip back to eighth.

The Jets and Knights are scheduled to play at Henson Park on Saturday, kicking off at 3.00pm.
