Holmes named for Origin 1

Sharks star Valentine Holmes has been named in the Queensland team for game one of the 2018 State of Origin series.

Holmes, who was involved in the 2017 series, playing two games for the Maroons, went on to play a leading role for the Kangaroos in their World Cup triumph at season's end.

He has played 11 games for Australia in addition to his two Origin appearances.

Set to take his place in a star-studded Queensland backline, Holmes beat out Darius Boyd and Corey Oates for the Maroons wing spot. He is likely to play alongside Queensland captain Greg Inglis.

Holmes will be the only Sharks player involved in the series opener, to be played in Melbourne on Wednesday week, after NSW selectors omitted incumbents Josh Dugan and Wade Graham, with the pair only recently having returned from injury.

The Queensland team for game one is listed below, with the NSW team to be officially announced later today.
