Flegg Sharks score win number 3

Again they made it difficult and once again they left it late, however the Jersey Flegg Sharks managed to notch third win from as many starts with an 18-16 victory over the Manly Sea Eagles at HE Laybutt Field in Blacktown.

Following a comfortable first round win over the Roosters and a narrow victory against the Dragons, the Flegg Sharks are now just one of three teams to remain undefeated through the first three weeks of the 2018 season.

Down 10-0 at the half time break and fighting hard to keep pace, the Under-20 Sharks battled back in the second period, tries to winger Isaac Lumelume and fullback Luke Polselli bringing them to within two points of the Sea Eagles at 10-8 down.

The Sharks then took their first lead of the afternoon when centre Ronaldo Mulitalo scored and despite the conversion being off line once again, at 12-10 the young Cronulla side finally had their noses in front.

Lumelume would then cross for his second, with Braden Trindall this time adding the extras, and the Sharks had a match-winning eight-point lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Manly would make it interesting while giving coach Dave Howlett a few anxious moments at the same time with a 75th minute try, however the Sharks hung on for another gutsy win and with a bye this weekend will remain on top of the ladder through the first month of the season.

The next assignment for the Flegg Sharks will be a rematch with the St George Illawarra Dragons at Southern Cross Group Stadium on Friday, April 6. The two teams have already met once this year, with the Sharks coming out on top by 22-18.
