Junior Sharks win big against the Bulldogs

The Matthews Cup, SG Ball and Tarsha Gale Cup Sharks all enjoyed big wins over the Bulldogs in round two Junior Rep matches played at the Sharks Academy Fields at Cronulla High School yesterday.

The Tarsha Gale girls got the day off to  fast start with a comprehensive 70-18 win, before the under-16 Matthews Cup boys dominated their match in registering a 30-6 victory, while the Ball Sharks made it a treble with a 34-16 thumping of the Bulldogs in keeping all three teams undefeated after two rounds of the junior rep competitions.

First up were the Tarsha Gale Sharks in what was their first outing following a round one bye, however they were quickly into gear, racing away to a 48-18 half time lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, the girls adding 22 more points while keeping their opponents scoreless in what was a performance set to put other teams in the Tarsha Gale competition on notice.

Maddison Higgins-Ashby had a field day with a personal tally of four tries and a goal, with Zali Fay and Quincy Dodd also notching two tries each in the win.

Following up on the fast start to the day from their female club mates the Matthews Cup Sharks were quickly on the board through a Kade Dykes try in just the fifth minute and when centre Douglas Levi crossed a short time later the home team were high on confidence at 12-0 in front.

A Zac Hodges four pointer made it 12-0 at the break, with the Sharks extending their lead to 30-0 before a late try to their opponents completed the scoring.

With two wins from two starts the Matthews Sharks now head to Canberra as one of five undefeated teams two rounds into the 2018 season.

Then putting the finishing touches on a successful day for the Sharks, the under-18 Ball squad always held the upper hand in their clash in recording a six tries to three win over the Bulldogs.

Joniah Lualua scored after just three minutes, Isaac Langmuir crossed for the Sharks second and the result was a good as confirmed when the Cronulla under-18 side had forged a 22-6 half time lead.

Also undefeated, the Ball Sharks will be looking to build on their fast start to the season when they travel to Canberra to face the Raiders next week.

All three Sharks sides now head to Belconnen in the ACT for round three matches, with the Tarsha Gale girls first up at 11.30am.
