While it was a group diminished by the Rep Round call ups with 13 NRL squad members taking part this in the various games this weekend, the Sharks NRL squad still went through their paces on earlier today, firstly in a contact session at Wanda Beach, then on the main stadium at Southern Cross Group Stadium.

Those not out of town were all on deck, including hooker James Segeyaro who is currently sidelined with a broken arm.

Segeyaro didn’t participate in the contact work but he was certainly involved in the conditioning session which followed as he attempts to maintain his fitness ahead of a potential return to the field in five to six weeks.

Nothing has changed with the predicted return date for the Sharks hooker, who is aiming to be back following the round 13 bye, however depending on the advice of specialists the comeback may yet be delayed for another week or two.

As for the others battling niggling injuries, Luke Lewis completed all aspects of training today and is near a certain starter for the Sharks next game, which is the local derby clash with the Dragons on Friday, May 12.

Lewis ran freely this morning and will be an asset to the team next weekend after having missed the previous two matches due to a hamstring injury.

Jayson Bukuya, the only other top squad member currently sidelined, did all his work today in the gym as he continues his recovery from an ankle syndesmosis.

Sharks medical staff are targeting a round 14 return for Bukuya.

Now with the weekend off to freshen up, the Sharks return to the training paddock on Monday with preparations to then step up prior to the Dragons game on Friday.
