The Sharks are set to take on the Brisbane Broncos in warm conditions at Dolphin Stadium in Redcliffe tonight.

With the Auckland Nines tournament being played this weekend, Head Coach Shane Flanagan has named Grand Final players James Maloney, Andrew Fifita and Valentine Holmes for the trial.

One player who will not feature in the math will be captain Paul Gallen, who failed a fitness test prior to the team flying to Brisbane on Friday.

New recruits Daniel Mortimer and Jeremy Latimore will get their first chance to show their wares in Sharks colours with Mortimer starting at hooker and Latimore coming off the bench.

While Brisbane Coach Wayne Bennett has sent players such as Darius Boyd, Anthony Milford and new recruit Benji Marshall to the Nines, representative players Sam Thiaday and Ben Hunt will be on hand for the home side.

Although drastically different teams, the Sharks were victorious the last time the teams met, in Round 9 of the 2016 season and will be looking to build a solid footing before the Dacia World Club Challenge on February 19.

Both sides will also take the match as an opportunity to blood NYC and fringe first grade players into what will be a high-intensity match.

With a healthy crowd expected at Dolphin Stadium to watch tonight’s fixtures, fans are set for an entertaining evening.
