More accustomed to writing about, reporting on and capturing rugby league moments on camera, than they are catching bombs in a swirling breeze at Southern Cross Group Stadium, the media were enticed to take to the field hoping to win a special prize courtesy of Sharks wagering partner CrownBet.

Fox Sports, Channel 9 and Channel 7, journalists from the Daily Telegraph, The Australian, AAP and writers from the various sporting websites, all joined in the fun however the task at hand was a little more difficult than they might have imagined.

With Sharks trainer Mark Noakes hoisting the Steeden high into the air, some had more success that others but the competition was fierce considering the prize being offered.

Through the generosity of CrownBet Rewards one media representative would take away the spoils which included a night in a Crown Resort in Melbourne, a dinner with Heston Blumenthal to the value of $500 and a flight voucher for $250.

In all a prize valued at over $1,000.

Many tried, a few struggled and a couple succeeded, with the final shootout contested by Dave ‘the cameraman’ from Fox Sports and Channel 9 Sports reporter Julie Snook.

While Julie was brave and her efforts meritorious, it was Dave who came out on top, speculating that he may donate his prize for his wife and daughter to enjoy.

The prize and the special media activation was courtesy of CrownBet Rewards.
