Sharks Coach Shane Flanagan fronted the media on Friday as the side prepared to head to Melbourne to take on the Storm tomorrow night.

Speaking of the significance of the clash - both in wanting to claim the Minor Premiership and also that of taking a mental edge into the Finals - Flanagan said a win against the Storm will bode well for the side's chances come the season's biggest games.

"It's going to be a big game ... it'll be pretty close to packed and we're really looking forward to it," Flanagan said.

"I saw Cameron Smith came out (in speaking to the media) and said there's a psychological advantage if you can get a win inside three or four weeks of playing each other (should the sides meet again).

"It does stick in players' minds. We're going down there, wanting to play well, wanting to defend really well.

"If we do that, we're going to put ourselves in with a really good chance. I do probably agree (with Smith) ... but it's a different competition come Semi Finals."
