As part of the Sharks support of Nova Employment’s ‘100 Jobs in 100 Days’ campaign and Transition to Work programs, CEO Lyall Gorman was in attendance as a special guest at Nova’s Caringbah branch recently.

A not-for-profit organisation that assists people with disabilities to find employment, Nova Employment has two offices in the Sutherland Shire at Caringbah and Engadine.

Gorman spoke to the trainees about the jobs he had held when a similar age to those in the room, reciting stories from his younger days working for Coles and Henny Penny.

“We then covered my career as a teacher and in the business world, through to when I launched and was CEO at the Western Sydney Wanderers, going on to talk about my role now as Group CEO of the Sharks,” Gorman said.

“The young men and women asked a lot of questions and were very attentive.”

Gorman went on to talk about his vision for the Sharks, gave the trainees some tips on having a successful career and expressed a belief that everyone has ability in some area and if harnessed in combination with hard work it can lead to a prosperous and fulfilling life.

His stories and advice resonated with all those in attendance and was in tune with the Nova Employment message to employers about focussing on the ability of their clients and job candidates.

The Transition to Work programme assists school leavers to gain skills that prepares them to find employment including resume writing, interview techniques, job prospecting and necessary skills to be successful in the job they obtain.

They also complete Certificate 1 in work education in addition to other on the job training.

With just under one month to go for the Nova 100 Jobs in 100 Days campaign, the tally stands at 65, with a strong finish needed in the next few weeks to reach the target of 100.

If anyone is interested in giving a Nova candidate an opportunity please call Gemma at the Caringbah branch on 9535 8800 or Katerina at the Engadine office on 9548 7500. It’s a free service and a fantastic business decision.
