Despite not playing in the Sharks versus Manly trial due to a groin complaint, forward Chris Heighington spoke to Sharks TV in the wake of the 24-all draw.

Heighington said Sunday's Season Launch proved a good opportunity for the side's newest recruits to impress, infront of what was a handy crowd at Shark Park.

"It was a good first hit out, obviously there was a few combinations there that have to get a bit of game time ... it was a good crowd, it was a good day for footy," Heighington said.

"It's really exciting times, we're looking forward to (the NRL season) - we've one more trial next week against the Tigers, then we go up to Townsville.

"I was feeling alright after the Nines, I covered a few kilometres, so they gave me this week off. Hopefully I'll be right for next week."

Heighington also spoke of the upcoming week for the side, before his son Rocco jumped in to let it be known his favourite Sharks player (with a little help from his dad!)
