By Jeff Petersen

Cronulla’s superb two-point victory over the Knights last Sunday proved to be a great tonic for the fans but our boys face a much more resilient side in North Queensland this Saturday.

The Cowboys are running hot but can be stopped if the Sharks can show their mettle in what’s sure to be a splendid match-up.

We have a great record against the Cowboys, winning 21 of the 35 games. The Sharks 60% win percentage bodes well for another success, with our away record impressive with 10 wins from 18 outings against the North Queenslanders in matches played in Townsville.

The Sharks first sortie to 1300SMILES ended in a closely fought 6-point loss back in 1996.

The next six visits to Townsville gave the Sharks a string of consecutive victories. Current meetings against the Cowboys have favoured the Northerners, with most games delivering the best attacking football seen for decades.

Sharks legend Andrew Ettingshausen carved his name on the try-scoring honours list once more with 5 in Townsville and 8 in total against the Cowboys in all matches. ET shares these scoring records with Paul Mellor (5) and David Peachey (8), respectively. Incidentally, Andrew’s five tries against the Cowboys came in the first four Cronulla visits to Townsville.

The 1300SMILES Stadium was previously known as Stockland Stadium (1995-1997); Malanda Stadium (1998) and then Dairy Farmers Stadium from 1999 to 2012.

Our last game and last meeting in Townsville resulted in Sharks five-eighth Daniel Holdsworth dropping a field goal from 45 metres to take the game to golden point.
