Sunday’s Members Round will feature a new flavor of halftime entertainment, as the cast from stage show, ‘Bring It On’ performs part of their routine.

Inspired by the hit film of the same name, the production showcases some of Australia’s best young talent in the musical industry.

Producer Julian Batchelor said he was excited by the chance to perform at Remondis Stadium as part of the halftime entertainment and said his cast is just as eager.

“The guys are really excited to be able to perform in front of such a large crowd like there’ll be here on Sunday,” said Batchelor.

“Obviously it’s a different type of crowd however they’re used to performing in some of the biggest venues around Australia so this shouldn’t be too daunting for them.”

Batchelor said that in searching for the highest-quality talent, the directors scoured the broader Sydney-area to find the cast that would best do the production justice and also showcase the talent that Sydney has to offer.

“They’re from all over Sydney. Everywhere from Castle Hill to here in the Shire.

“People are coming in from out West too, so we’ve literally gone out and found the best singers and dancers we could find.”

Cast member Kirsty Sturgess has performed in front of large crowds in before around Sydney however is looking forward to the chance to perform at an NRL match.

“We are going to give a bit of a show for what we’re going to be doing come production week,” said Sturgess.

“It’ll be good to get everyone psyched, get the crowd amped and show a few of our stunts and dance routines that we do."

Understanding their routine will differ from the regular Cronulla Sharks Mermaids halftime performance, Sturgess says the crowd is in for a great show when the cast takes to the field.

“There’s an extreme amount of athleticism that comes into it all with cheerleading.

“A big part of it is the smiles and the waves but there’s also quite a lot of stunting so girls being thrown in the air, doing flips in the air along with a heavy amount of dance choreography in there as well.

“So it’ll be very full on and very athletic.”

Given the change in pace from the regular halftime entertainment at Remondis Stadium, the Cronulla Sharks Mermaids have welcomed the addition to the game day schedule.

Mermaid Elisa Boonstra believes it is exciting to have a different style of halftime entertainment and that Sharks fans will be impressed.

“It’ll be really good to see a different style of cheerleading,” said Boonstra.

“We dance where as they’re more the American style cheerleading, so it’ll be good to see something different for a change.”

The ‘Bring It On’ cast will be performing part of their routine at halftime this weekend during our Members Round game day entertainment.

The production will be performed at the NIDA Parade Theatre from Saturday June 27 – Sunday, 5 July.
