After their golden point win over the Titans, Sharks coach Shane Flanagan decided to mix things up a little bit at training this week.

With a bye in round 11 Flanagan took the opportunity to freshen up the troops ahead of the local derby clash with the Dragons, with Tuesday’s session involving a visit to the Taren Point indoor sports centre.

For a couple of hours the boys went to battle in an indoor cricket contest, with a team comprising Blake Ayshford, Sam Tagataese, David Fifita, Jayson Bukuya, Sami Sauiluma, Saul Houma, 20’s coach James Shepherd and NRL staff member Dean Smith coming out on top.

Of all those on show Shepherd showed plenty of ability with the bat and ball, Nathan Gardner looked a handy left-handed batsman, David Fifita a capable all-rounder, while Jack Bird’s right-arm fast-medium deliveries caused the opposition plenty of problems. Chris Heighington and Michael Ennis were decent enough behind the stumps as wicket-keepers.

A few (who will remain nameless) struggled to make an impact but fun was had by all as they all worked up a sweat away from the normal routine of field or strength training.

However while Tuesday was all about letting off some stream, Wednesday it was back to work with a field session at the Cronulla High School Academy fields.

On a sunny autumn day the Sharks NRL squad went back to basics with a series of skill drills, with some conditioning games thrown in.

The players will now train as per individual requirements over the next few days before returning as a group next Monday.

Sharks TV caught some of the action at Indoor cricket and also at training today, with a video highlights package now available.
