Anthony Tupou has undergone surgery to repair his badly broken jaw with surgeons reportedly pleased with the outcome of the operation.

Tupou was taken away by ambulance and admitted to St George Hospital before play had finished on Saturday night in the Sharks match against the Warriors however the surgery was held back until Sunday evening.

Reports indicate that plates were inserted in the jaw during the surgical process.

Tupou is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days and will return home later in the week.

At this stage it is far too early to predict a time for when the injury will have fully recovered and when Tupou may be able to return to the field.

The Sharks join with members and fans in wishing Anthony a comfortable and speedy recovery.

Also in the game against the Warriors both Ricky Leutele (shoulder) and Tinirau Arona (hamstring) suffered injuries, with the Sharks website to update their status and potential return in a ‘Casualty Ward’ article to be published on Wednesday morning.
