On Saturday he chalks up 50 NRL games for the Cronulla club, while before that Michael Gordon played over 100 games for the Penrith Panthers during what has been a successful and celebrated NRL career.

The Sharks Player of the Year in both 2013 and 2014, it goes without saying the goal-kicking fullback is one of the most valuable players in the Cronulla side each and every week.

But way before the bright lights of the NRL were shining down on him each weekend, Gordon played the game of rugby league for the love of it, running around for his local club South Tweed Heads, located on the NSW-Queensland border, as many youngsters will do across the country during the winter months.

Which is why Gordon was only too happy to jump into a photo with some Cronulla district footy kids and to do his bit to help promote junior league participation and Play NRL round.

This Saturday night when the Gold Coast Titans come to town the Sharks will be celebrating junior league with a number of game day activations, giving the stars of the future and the volunteers who make it all happen, their moment in the spotlight.

A junior league ‘Shark Lap’ for volunteers and pre-game and half time demonstrations, while some of the youngsters involved will form a guard of honour for the two teams when they run out for the big game on Saturday.

While the junior league season is almost upon us, there is still opportunity to sign on with your local clubs, with mini and mod league rules, as well as the safe play code which exists at all levels of junior league, makes it a safe, fun and enjoyable sport for all.

The Sharks encourage young Rugby League enthusiasts to register with a junior club ahead of the 2015 season getting underway over the coming weeks.

And in further encouragement to sign on and play Rugby League in 2015, as a part of an exciting promotion, all newly registered players in the Cronulla junior district competition will go into a draw to win a Sharks VIP, behind-the-scenes experience.

The ‘Inner Sanctum’ experience will see the lucky winners and their families invited to attend a Sharks NRL open training session, before taking a tour of Remondis Stadium.

The winners will also be granted entry into the Sharks dressing shed, while a barbeque will provide a special opportunity for the children and their parents to get up close and personal with the entire Sharks NRL squad.

To be considered for the prize, players must register with one of the 14 Cronulla Sutherland Junior Rugby League clubs prior to the season’s kick off (April 18 for juniors).

So sign on and play junior league in 2015 and if coming to the game on Saturday, save a special cheer for Mick Gordon on the night of his 50th game for the Sharks but also recognise the kids and the volunteers from junior league when they take to Remondis Stadium this Saturday evening.

For junior league registration and other enquiries, please contact the Cronulla Sutherland District JRL Office on 9527 8273.

Dates and further details of the promotion are yet to be confirmed, with the 14 junior league clubs to determine their respective winners of the competition.
