With our Cronulla boys coasting nicely on 3 straight away wins, albeit by 2 point margins, we turn our attention to this Saturday’s home clash with a rejuvenated Parramatta Eels.
This will be the 80th meeting between the two clubs since 1967 (for 41 wins) and also our 35th home game against Parramatta, in which the Sharks have a 21-13 win advantage. Having won our last three home matches and four of our last five against the Eels, the Sharks will be confident of pulling off a victory in front of their home fans.
Past Parramatta games at home have been hard and fast encounters and notably our first-ever home game at Endeavour Field was against the Eels in 1968, Round 14, June 30th, when forward Graeme Sams scored our first home try in first grade in a 10-7 win.
Former English centre and winger Bob Wear who played 103 games with the Sharks in the 1970s and starred on the flank in the 1973 Grand Final, holds the club record for tries scored at home against the Eels, with 8. Though the total try scoring record overall against Parramatta is 9 tries, another scoring record held by Sharks legend Andrew Ettingshausen.
One hundred individual players have scored for the Sharks in the history of games vs Parramatta, 60 of whom have scored in front of our home fans, scoring 109 tries in total.
