Established in 2006 the Sutherland Heart Clinic, the only specialist Cardiology Service in the Sutherland Shire, operates 24 hours a day, seven days per week and is the premium medical facility for heart disease and illness in the local area.

With links to the Sydney Prince of Wales Hospital, a facility acknowledged nationally as the leader in the field, the Sutherland Heart Clinic receives similar recognition as a major treatment centre for heart disease.

And this weekend, in helping raise awareness as to the dangers of heart attack and heart disease, the Sutherland Heart Clinic will be match day sponsors at the Sharks v Newcastle game at Remondis Stadium on Sunday.

A group of Sharks players, accompanied by Sponsorship Manager Luke Edmonds, recently dropped into the Sutherland Heart Clinic to visit patients, meet staff and tour the facilities.

“It may seem a different type of sponsorship to what we are used to, however the Sharks are happy to have Sutherland Heart Clinic on board if it alerts people to the dangers of heart disease and also lets them know the best place to seek treatment and advice in the Sutherland Shire,” Edmonds said.

“It is a world class facility and it is located right in the middle of our local area.”

As a part of this weeks promotion, Sutherland Heart Clinic were aiming to alert people to the fact that one in three deaths in Australia are caused by heart disease, with males over 40 having a one in two chance of a heart attack before age 70. Females over 40 have a one in three chance which emphasises the importance of not ignoring the symptoms.

The symptoms leading to a heart attack include pain, pressure, heaviness and tightness in the chest, neck, jaw, arm, back and shoulders, with the highest risk category those who smoke, have high blood pressure, are overweight and physically inactive or have a poor diet.

“If you are suffering from any of the signs of a heart attack call triple 0 and you can be transferred directly to Sutherland Heart Clinic for treatment,” Associate Professor Roger Allan from Sutherland Heart Clinic said.

Sutherland Heart Clinic, which is situated on the grounds of Sutherland Hospital but operates independently, is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

If suffering any of the above symptoms call 000, or if you feel you are at risk see your GP who can refer to the Sutherland Heart Clinic.

Promotions and an awareness campaign featuring the Sutherland Heart Clinic will be a major focus at Remondis Stadium on Sunday.
