Sharks re-sign Flanagan for 3 seasons

The Sharks announce that Shane Flanagan has signed a new three year contract to be Head Coach at the Cronulla club for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Sharks CEO Steve Noyce believes Flanagan’s re-signing to be an exciting development at the Sharks and is confident he is right man to guide the club over the coming years.

“It is an important signing for the club as Shane will play a pivotal role in the development of the football operations and in the delivery of sustained and continued success at the Sharks, both on and off the field,” Noyce said.

Since taking over the head coaching role in late 2010, Flanagan has attracted a number of quality players to the Sharks, including internationals Luke Lewis and Todd Carney, along with high profile recruits such as Michael Gordon, Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington.

Flanagan has also guided the Sharks into the NRL finals in both 2012 and 2013, with last season’s result as Noyce explained, particularly praiseworthy due to the adverse circumstances surrounding the team throughout the year.

“Last year Shane’s leadership, focus and work ethic played a significant role in the success the team achieved throughout what was a very difficult season,” Noyce added.

Sharks captain Paul Gallen was another to welcome Flanagan’s re-signing.

“Flanno is respected by all the players and staff. He is the leader of our club,” Gallen said. “

Currently stood down as Sharks head coach, Flanagan is working with the NRL so as to be in a position to recommence his duties at the club prior to the start of the 2015 NRL season.

The Flanagan announcement comes on the heels of the massive response to Stages 1 and 2 of the Woolooware Bay property development and the financial security the project will provide, setting the scene for an exciting future at the Cronulla Sharks.
