Robson was injured in the early stages of the first half, throwing the plans of coach Peter Sharp into disarray with Todd Carney also sidelined, but more significantly the serious nature of the injury caused concern for Sharks medical staff on the night.

Immediately Robson was taken to St George Hospital were scans and x-rays revealed fractures to his jaw, cheekbone and eye socket. Robson was operated on soon after and is said to recovering as well as can be expected.

The injury will see Robson miss the start of the 2014 season, with a date for a return to action yet to be determined.

In his absence, it would be expected that the experienced Daniel Holdsworth will partner Todd Carney in the halves for the Sharks season opener against the Gold Coast Titans scheduled for March 10.

Carney is recovering well from a hamstring complaint and is likely to be available for the start of the season.
