In drizzling rain at the Sharks Academy Training Fields at Cronulla High School, Matt Moylan’s preparations for the 2018 NRL season continued earlier today, albeit somewhat tentatively.

Moylan completed a rehabilitation running session, alongside Sharks backrower Kurt Capewell, taking the first steps to being 100 per cent fit and ready to go well ahead of the kick off to the new season next year.

In just his second week at the Sharks, Moylan was on restricted duties due to off-season surgery, with the Sharks Physical Performance Manager Andrew Gray explaining what might be expected of the club’s newest recruit over the coming weeks in the pre-Christmas training period.

“Matt had arthroscopic knee surgery at the Panthers to correct a long-term problem and will be in rehab for a couple of weeks yet,” Gray said. “We will assess his progress before giving him the go-ahead to return to the full-time training group.”

Understandably the Sharks were taking good care of Moylan, the ex-Penrith and former NSW and Australian representative, who has joined the Club on a four-year contract.

As for Capewell, a minor ankle procedure has slowed him up somewhat but he too will be on deck and in full training in the next week or so, more than likely prior to the Christmas break and in advance of the 2018 trial games and the season which follows.

The Sharks were reporting no other major injury concerns, with the squad, minus their World Cup stars, training strongly at the Sharks Academy, going through speed and agility drills, along with skill work and ruck play.

Training continues for the extended NRL squad, with the World Cup players to filter back into the Sharks system once their commitments are complete and following a well-earned break.

Joseph Paulo, Ricky Leutele (Samoa) and James Segeyaro (PNG) were eliminated from the World Cup last weekend with their respective teams bowing out at the quarter-final stage.
