Nations unite for Women’s RLWC Launch

The official launch of the Women's World Cup has been held at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour this morning, with all six teams in attendance for a media call and photo opportunities followed by formalities.

Cronulla Sharks and Australian Jillaroos captain Ruan Sims spoke about her excitement only two days out from the start of the competition.

“It’s been a landmark year for not only women’s rugby league, but women’s sport in general”

“For us to top off the year with a stand alone women’s competition, and have two world champions crowned on the same day in the same sport is phenomenal” said Sims.

The tournament will officially kick off this Thursday 16 November at Southern Cross Group Stadium, with six nations set to line up.

Teams from Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Cook Islands and England, will take part in the  pool matches and semi-finals here in Cronulla, with the final to be held at Brisbane Stadium alongside the Men's Final on 2 December 2017.

Thursday will see an opening ceremony get things underway, with the first match of the World Cup between New Zealand and Canada kicking off at 1.45pm.
