Selection in the Kiwis squad for Gerard Beale in the upcoming 2017 Rugby League World Cup is just reward for his recent season.

Heading to the New Zealand Warriors in 2018, the departing back Beale played out his time the Sharks like a true professional across the wing, fullback and centres.

The versatile back was one of the Sharks consistent players in a season where the Sharks genuinely struggled to find consistency as a whole and selection to play in his way into his first ever Rugby League World Cup.

Beale has played for the Kiwis on 10 occasions, featuring in a series of Four Nations Test Matches along with two ANZAC Tests, with three tries to his name.

Playing 70 matches for the Sharks out of a possible 78, Beale really came into his own in season 2016 when Shane Flanagan rotated he and Ricky Leutele off the bench during the season. The move would prove fruitful not only during the season proper however would be a masterstroke in the Grand Final as Sosaia Feki was forced from the field through injury leaving Beale to partner Leutele on the Sharks’ left-edge.

In 2017, Beale was a constant for the Sharks backline, covering a range of positions when called upon and doing the job asked of him by Flanagan.

With plenty of talent on offer in the outside backs for New Zealand, Beale will have his work cut out for himself when David Kidwell announces his side for their first game against Samoa at Mount Smart Stadium on Saturday, October 28.

However, this will is set to be a challenge that Beale will relish. Nothing brings out the best in athletes like a little adversity.

Thank you Gerard for your time at the Sharks and we wish you all the best at the World Cup and into the future.
