Falling awkwardly late in the game against the Raiders, Jack Bird was assisted from the field with the young centre nursing what appeared to be a badly injured shoulder.
Assessed by Sharks medical staff immediately after the game, the injury wasn’t as serious as first feared, however the likelihood is for Bird to miss one to two weeks while overcoming the problem.
Bird will visit a specialist on Wednesday to find out the full extent of the injury and to be provided a date for his potential return.
With Bird unlikely to be named tomorrow in the Sharks team to take on the Broncos, Coach Shane Flanagan has a couple of options up his sleeve as to a possible replacement, with Kurt Capewell and Gerard Beale in line to step into the right centre position.
In other Sharks injury news, James Maloney appears to be on track to return this Friday night in Brisbane after missing the last two matches with a broken hand, while young hooker Jayden Brailey continues his recovery and is moving closer to being available for selection.
Brailey is scheduled to return in either round 24 or 25.
The Sharks team to play Brisbane on Friday at Suncorp Stadium will be named tomorrow.
