A Jayden Walker try one minute from time and a Fa’amanu Brown sideline conversion has seen the Newtown Jets steal an unlikely victory over the Penrith Panthers in their Intrust Super Premiership match at Pepper Stadium.

The Jets trailed for most of the contest and were down 16-6 with time ticking until a 90-metre intercept try form Edrick Lee gave them hope with the scores at 16-12 late in the match.

The Jets them completed a remarkable comeback when fullback Leigh Higgins stepped past the on-rushing Panther defence, found open space and passed to Penani Manumalealii, who kicked towards the south-west corner, where back-rower Walker out-sprinted the Panthers chasers to score.

From there it was up to Brown who calmly potted the difficult kick for the Jets to claim what are an important two competition points.

The Jets didn’t have their own way and were forced to come from behind, trailing 10-0 at the break, then 16-6 before the grandstand finish.

The Jets now have three wins from their seven games this season.
