Having stepped in to fill a halves void in the Sharks Finals run of 2013, a now-mature Chad Townsend said he's better placed for the hype of the season's biggest matches, this time around.

Townsend was a late inclusion into the Sharks team for their week two clash with Manly in that season, and while turning in a solid performance on the night, knows now he's a far different player today.

"Obviously that was on different circumstances," Townsend said.

"I was probably a bit young, I was inexperienced ... now two years on, two years later, I'm a lot wiser. I've played much more football, I've been in many more circumstances and situations.

"I've definitely grown as a player ... I'm just looking forward to ripping in this weekend."

Townsend also spoke of the side's preparations ahead of the trip to Canberra, as well as Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart in his time at the Sharks.
