Sharks hooker Michael Ennis spoke 1-on-1 with Sharks TV in telling of the driving influences behind his decision to retire.
Joined at the Sharks Leagues Club on Tuesday by wife Simone and their four young children, Ennis said it is 'family time' that he is looking forward to most, post his playing days.
"It's a big part of the reason. When you play football and you apply yourself to be able to stay at the top of your game, you've got to pour so much energy in to that," Ennis said.
"Simone has been amazing in that regard, in terms of supporting me. Sometimes you've got to be selfish in terms of getting your preparation right.
"I'm looking forward to giving her a bit more of a hand, and being a better husbane, and being there as a dad a bit more.
"It's the end of a footy career, but there's plenty of good times ahead in life to look forward to."
